2023 Spring Indoor World Archery Star Tournament Results are in! Click to see tournament results on the Leagues and Tournament page: cubrunarchers.org/leagues--tournaments.html We have another champion among us--Jim Kerrigan! In 1985, a group of seven men and women formed the original leadership for what was initially known as the National Senior Olympics Organization (NSOO). The vision: to promote healthy lifestyles for adults through education, fitness and sport. In the fall of 1987, they hosted the first National Senior Olympic Games in St. Louis. The games were a great success with 2,500 competitors and over 100,000 spectators. In 1990 the event began working under the name National Senior Games – The Senior Olympics with a 20-sport, biennial competition for men and women 50 and over, and is the largest multi-sport event in the world for seniors. Our own Jim Kerrigan has been preparing for this event for years with his recurve bow and competing in numerous events. All his practice paid off in Ft. Lauderdale this past May with a first-place victory in Men’s Archery Recurve. We want to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to yet another champion within the ARL-FX chapter. Pay Annual Dues with Credit Card! You can now pay Cub Run Archer and VBA annual dues with a credit card. Range officers will make every effort to hold the range open during the Fall and Winter, Monday through Thursday evenings, 6:30-9pm. However, those periods may not all be covered due to peoples' changing commitments. ROs may also volunteer to open the range at other times. The range is frequently open on weekday mornings, when folks are in the clubhouse. You can call the clubhouse first to determine if a person is there, at 703-631-4498. Please also refer to the Cub Run Archers event calendar, above, for other activities that may indicate that the indoor range is open or closed. |
General Hours of Operation for Ranges
Outdoor ranges: 8am -- 9pm Indoor range: 8am -- 12am Archery Class--Archery 101 The Archery 101 class is for anyone wanting to get into archery that has very little knowledge of the sport of archery. The different types of archery equipment are discussed, as well as the correct way to purchase your archery equipment, archery safety, and the correct way to shoot when live shooting is taking place. The minimum age for the class is nine years old. This class makes for a fun afternoon taking place in the indoor archery range at 1:00PM. - 3:30pm. on a Sunday afternoon each month. For more information, contact Dick Riemer at rriemer@cox.net Congratulations! Dick Riemer and Mark Gauntner have received the VIP award. The IWLA chapter awards the VIP award each year to outstanding members who have been a member for 15-plus years, and have offered their time and excellent service to the chapter. Indoor Range The indoor range will again be open Monday through Friday evenings 6:30 pm-9:00 pm commencing this November and running through March. Cub Run has traditionally supported this schedule with folks to open and close the facility and generally over-see the evening's shoot. We are now putting together a schedule to ensure coverage and need volunteers. Marv Hicks (marv.hicks@icloud.com) (cell: 703-848-5112) is putting the schedule together and will act as our POC. Please look to your personal plans and help whenever you can spare an evening or two. Historically, range traffic has been light so this also provides an opportunity for some quality practice time. Contact Marv as soon as possible with any help you can provide. Any support would be appreciated. Thank you. Archery Instruction I have been asked for help on archery instruction. My first response is the Archery 101 classes taught by Dick Riemer at the clubhouse. They have been popular. For more information you can email at rriemer@cox.net. There is Hoffman Archery, 5185 Lee Hwy., Warrenton, VA 20187, 540 349-1631. I have been there and have received excellent advice. There is Cabela’s in Gainesville, 5291 Wellington Branch Dr, Gainesville, VA 20155. I believe they have an archery shooting area near the archery department. They might have someone who would be willing to give a brief introduction. Then there is YouTube! There are billions of videos out there on everything. I have seen YouTube videos on everything from making pizza to golf. The problem is that anyone can post a video, and much can be absolutely ghastly. Many times I have seen “instruction” videos that are excellent instruction on what not to do. The most important lesson is to be extremely careful. Yet there are many YouTube videos on archery that I have found useful and entertaining. I will start a list. I’m not endorsing any instructor, product, or video. If you think my suggestion is bad, please let me know. If you have any recommendations, please let me know. I'm just starting the list. My goal is to update the list often. Meanwhile, I hope these are helpful and fun to see.
